History of St Elizabeth Church

When Ravenna, Kentucky, became a railroad center a three acre plot of ground on a pictureasque know was donated for the building of a Roman Catholic Church by Mrs Sawyer. For many years people of the Catholic faith had sought a suitable place for worship. Through a generous bequest by Miss Katherine Veronica Schmidt of Richmond, Kentucky, it became possible for Fr Oscar Poole to build a church here.

A brick structure with a small campanile, of plain Italian style, which would accommodate 150 worshipers was completed in January of 1932.
